Program Summary
This community Care Pastoral Counseling major integrates theology and other faith-based principles with the knowledge, and understanding of common behavior health issues within the community, helping individuals who struggle with mental and emotional challenges. As a shepherd the pastor’s responsibility is to protect, feed and care for the people and its congregation as well as extending a hand in the community working with non- profit organizations and outreach, allowing them to gain spiritual wholeness and ethical growth. Using the truths of scripture, pastoral counselors can deliver the understanding in application of Gods word to those suffering from there afflictions. Graduates will gain a psychological and theological understanding on how to nurture a individuals mind and spirit using the word of God. Students that take mental health issues seriously and have the desire to protect guide, and heal one’s mind, the program gives them the provisions they need to accomplish their goals.
Program Overview
The Community Care Pastoral Counseling Program is offered at our university at the doctor’s level. The program gives an extensive training and preparation to individuals wanting to enter the field of pastoral counseling, community care or both. Students experience an in-depth study on different methods and principles utilized during the counseling process to bring an individual to wholeness. Individuals in the program are taught to rely strongly on the Holy Spirit and the core fundamentals of the Bible. The program teaches that with both the traditional secular approach to counseling and a well structured biblical approach, counselors able to provide clients with a better and more lasting solution. Future pastoral counselors are given tools and skills to equip them in facilitating divine intervention, applying praying and faith during counseling and cultivating a biblical approach to counseling. Applicants wanting to enter this program must meet all the pre-requisites to include a minimum of a masters degree prior to being accepted.
Career Field
Those who are called within the 5 fold of ministry or someone looking for a career as a school counselor, community outreach coordinator, hospices, or a religious based counseling center, the program facilitates those career choices. Graduates will leave the program with a profound understanding on how faith and mental health are an important part of everyday life. Graduates are often successful in roles as Chaplains, Community Advocates, Pastoral Counselors and Marriage and Family Counselors. With the current state of our economy, the world is in dyer need of repair and a degree in the counseling and care field is very beneficial to those wanting to be a part of the repair team to move countries forward.
